Gareth W. Lowe grew up in Long Beach, California. Lowe served in WWII as a radio operator in a B-17 bomber based in England. He received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1953 and soon after became associated with the New World Archaeological Foundation (NWAF) based in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. Edwin Nelson Ferdon Jr. (1913 June 14- ) is a notable ethnologist noted for his studies of the peoples of Polynesia and the Americas. He earned his bachelors degree from the University of New Mexico, and a masters from the University of Southern California.
